This 1-month certificate program is suitable for both beginners to fashion design and those with prior experience, focusing on the subject of Garment Construction.

Program Outline:

• How to make small sewing samples, which can be used to eventually manufacture full size garments:
  • Pockets
  • Zippers
  • Seams
  • Textures
  • Plackets
  • Waist belts
• Sewing 5 garments in students' own size or dummy size as per their preference. All garments will be taught with different types of openings for students to learn various styles of construction:
  • Basic fitted skirt / a line skirt
  • Women's shirt / open placket blouse
  • Flared dress
  • Full circular skirt
  • Basic Trousers

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Recognize the fundamentals of design room sewing techniques used in the fashion industry; including the construction skills needed to execute designs in a professional manner
• Develop sample garments through the use of a basic pattern
• Emphasize more on basic sewing construction skills, including fundamentals in the selection of fabrics, patterns, fit, and construction techniques
• Develop a sample library as well as a professionally finished garment (material costs and laboratory fees apply)
