Calligrapher Habib

Habib ur Rehman is one of the most celebrated calligraphers in Karachi and one of the most versatile. He graduated with a Fine Arts Diploma from Mehran Institute of Arts & Crafts and has over a decade of experience as an artist, along with a variety of careers as a creative graphics designer and physics lecturer. His collective experience represents 12+ years of work.

Similarly, he collects a wide range of experiences to inform his work. He draws inspiration from both the old masters and newer figures such as Bukhari and Rashid Aziz, and focuses on basic geometric shapes and symbols. His signature techniques in his calligraphic art is on making precise strokes with knives and emphasizing backgrounds which combine geometry and symbols to dazzling effect. He also specializes in Quranic verses and characters to build Ayats or verses as his current artistic journey. He challenges color restrictions by experimenting with large scale of multi-colors, pushing himself and his students past creative limits. 

Habib believes that composing an artwork is not just a combination of separate elements but rather a deep and reflective thought process, giving importance to every decision such as word placement, size difference in words and the best color to justify your artistic vision. Knife art especially is no easy task, requiring perfect unity of mind and body in order to create the perfect canvas. Calligraphy is a symphony created by the delicate strokes, color combinations and lines, and he invites his students to learn to appreciate this beauty for themselves.
