This Pediatric lifesaver safety training course is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The 6-hour program provides fundamental information in proper supervision, basic caregiving skills and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants.
Who should attend?
This training is suitable for caregivers who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in the caregiving industry. The course can also be taken by mothers who wish to be equipped with first aid skills for their children.
Learning outcome:
- By the end of the training course participants will be able to: Understand the role of a pediatric first aider
- Identify the responsibilities
- How to minimize the risk of infection to self and others
- Define an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid treatment
- Be able to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
- Participants are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course.

- Scene survey and Primary Survey on infants and children
- Dealing with an emergency
- Choking
- Unresponsive – breathing or not breathing
- CPR (child and infant)
- Fever and febrile seizures
- Head injury
- Burns
- Severe allergic reaction
- Swallowed something harmful
- Nosebleed
- Bleeding (severe and minor)
- Asthma attack
- Broken bones, strains, and sprains
- Shock including Anaphylactic shock
- Treatment of Seizures
