Expand your American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary and cultural skills in order to communicate more effectively!

In this 12-hour (4 sessions x 3 hours) course, you'll increase your visual awareness and comprehension skills. Improve your understanding of basic grammatical principles and practice with fellow students. You'll also learn more about the history of the deaf community and its language.

Students must have completed the Sign Language Expert Level 1 Course before booking this course. Additionally, basic ASL skills, including finger spelling and basic signs are required for this course.

Learning Objectives:

• Common vocabulary on several themes
• Incorporating numbers with signs expressing time, age, money and pronouns
• Enhanced use of non-manual signals and directional verbs
• Identify locations, give directions and discuss transportation
• Basic use of classifiers, incorporating the technique into basic storytelling
• More cultural information such as Deaf language, humor, philosophy and art

Course Outline:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of American Deaf culture
• Connect with other disciplines and acquire information and diverse perspectives in order to use the language to function in academic and career-related situations
