Shotokan Karate is a modern and rigorous full-contact form of stand-up fighting. In this 12-hour beginners' class, kids will not only practice key karate movements but also improve their discipline, strength and mental ability.
The training involves light warm-up which will eventually move into basic kicks, punches, block practice, and footwork, to execute these techniques with fluidity and balance. Essential strengthening and fitness exercises, such as push-ups, jumping, running, sit-ups, are incorporated in the sessions to condition the body.
Kids will also learn basic attack and block sequences in "Kata" (forms) and/or "Kumite" (sparring) techniques under the guidance of an experienced sensei. It is recommended to go twice a week to see meaningful progress in the martial art.
