Fatema takes students through a creative adventure through the virtual world of Minecraft in order to learn to plan, design, and construct homes for a superhero of their choice.

In this online 4-hour program (4 sessions x 1 hour), Fatema will guide students to plan, design and build using in Minecraft using her expertise as an architect. Architecture is a kaleidoscope of learning disciplines. Math, science, physics, arts and fun make up the obvious choices but there is something much more precious that architecture teaches us- critical thinking. For children to have flexible minds that can readily absorb new information and respond to complex problems, development of children’s critical thinking skills is very important.

Design teaches kids how to creatively think out the reasoning. Design is decision-making and problem-solving, and both these things are very relevant to daily life. Using two of their utmost favorites – superheroes and mine-craft, this course aims to increase the excitement and engagement level for the students.

In Minecraft, children learn how to calculate how much things cost, and the time required for certain tasks. For example, they could have to gather wood to build part of a dwelling. They could do it by hand, but using an axe is quicker, but the axe will need to be paid for and will eventually become blunt. Learning how to pay for and use resources efficiently is a key aspect to a child’s educational and practical development.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students along with having cart loads of fun, would also develop their creativity, decision-making and critical thinking skills

About the Instructor:

Fatema is an architect, a social researcher and a mum. She believes that architecture stems from basic patterns of human behaviour, and that design knowledge encourages critical thinking and decision making. She is keen to spark curiosity in the minds of her students by supporting them to learn from their creativity and discover more about their own abilities.
