Hit the dancefloor that has a flair for the dramatic with this Afrobeats dance class!
Afrobeat is a widely popular dance form that is a mix of traditional African dance and rhythms with some Western rhythms infused. It'll make you sweat and feel super cool under the consistent beating of African drums and dance music. Afrobeats music itself is a mix of various genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife, and Naija beats. It's less of a style per se and more of a fusion of sounds flowing out of Africa mainly.
The dance styles under Afrobeats include:
- Pilolo: based on a Ghanian hide-and-seek game
- Azonto: originating from Ghana and based on everyday movements
- Coupé Décalé: originating from the Ivory Coast, this is based on the idea that a person moves towards their goal and cuts all obstacles in their path in dance form
- Shaku Shaku: Nigerian street dance that involves crossing your arms in front of each other, widening your legs slightly and freestyling using mainly the feet
You will discover the diversity behind this versatile dance style, with tailored classes that will show you in detail just how it’s done.
