Act Too programs derive from Dubai's first experimental theatre project, Star Too, which was founded by long-term UAE residents eager to develop a laboratory style of theatre. Parallel to Star Too's interdisciplinary approach to theatre making, Act Too courses maintain a progressive and "ecumenical" philosophy of teaching. Acting classes, in particular, adopt a wide range of methods, incorporating techniques rooted in the Stanislavski system as well as the pedagogical values of exercises devised by the likes of Boal, Grotowski, and Lecoq.
Beyond plain categorizations of method, character or classical acting, Act Too's curriculum observes holistic learning, transcending genres, and recognizes that not one tradition supersedes another. Students are invited to learn about social or historical contexts where developments in theatre and acting have taken place. Both analytical and creative thinking skills are fostered to enrich craftsmanship in performance or personal and artistic expression. "Erudite playfulness" is key.
