This is a dedicated program for anyone interested to learn how to write a professional movie script (screenplay).
Whether you are a movie enthusiast, film student or industry professional, this exclusive 1-on-1 course (8 sessions x 3 hours) with award-winning filmmaker Fadi Hindash will teach you everything you need to know to create a compelling movie script and share his tips and tricks on how to pitch your scritp to producers or land a job in the film industry.
- Session One - Main Elements of a Script
Diving into the main elements of story and principles of story design. Main topics are story structure, theme, genre, character development, scene design and dialogue. The session is theoretical but with examples from the students' favorite films. This could be a one-off session but if you would like to continue, you will work on an idea for a short film that you would like to create.
- Session Two - How the Elements Evolve
A brainstorm session aimed at turning the student's idea into a film. What is the main idea of the film in one line? What genre- drama, comedy, horror, etc.? Who are the main characters? How does it begin and end? And what is the most compelling way to tell that story? The main objective of this session is to agree on an overall structure of the short film, the main characters, and theme. At the end of the session, you will be asked about the backstory of the characters for the next session.
- Session Three - Character development
In this session, you would flesh out the characters so that they become realistic people with specific personality traits and goals. By the end of the session, you will reach the arc of the characters in the story and how they change from beginning to end.
- Session Four - Scene Outline
In this session, you would summarise the scenes and what happens in each one.
- Session Five - Dialogue
In this session, we would write out the dialogue of the characters.
- Session Six - First Draft of the Script
In this session, we would expand the scene outline and turn it into proper script format with dialogue and action.
- Session Seven - Second Draft of the Script
This session would be dedicated to tweaking the script and polishing the dialogue.
- Session Eight - Final Draft of the Script
In this final session, you will read the script together with Fadi and go over it with a fine comb. Check if the theme is clear in every scene. You would also create a mood board for the look of the film. Putting together a collage of images with references from other films for setting and mood.
